Capsulorhexis Related Complications

The anterior continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis (CCC) should be capable of preserving the integrity of the capsular bag against the asymmetric forces that occur during phacoemulsification and intraocular lens (IOL) implantation.

In regard with surgeon�s control, a larger diameter capsulorhexis is more challenging because the anterior capsular contour more dramatically slopes away from the instrument as it moves toward the periphery. Because of this, a smaller rhexis should be attempted if difficulty with visualization or control is encountered. If necessary you may enlarge it in a second maneuver (Figure 1).
